JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Construction Trainer

DEPARTMENT: Education and Training

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

ACE is seeking a Construction Trainer to teach trainees basic construction skills necessary to do commercial and residential construction as well as provide job readiness workshops and encourage the development of positive work ethics. Construction Trainer will provide class instruction, hands-on work experience, and modify the Construction and Work Readiness curriculum and materials as required to meet trainee and program needs. A successful candidate will be able to educated, motivate, and inspire trainees.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training & Supervision

  • Overseeing construction trainees enrolled in the program.
  • Provide engaging training
  • Develop training schedule
  • Evaluate, document and report participants’ progress and skill development

Program Management

  • Implement strategies to meet the goals and objective of the organization’s pre-apprenticeship preparation construction program
  • Learn / Know current green construction techniques and incorporate into all lesson planning
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with worksite partners
  • Monitor participants’ daily attendance
  • Schedule, coordinate and monitor the progress and quality of all construction–related activities
  • Ensure that adequate and appropriate construction safety procedures are in place, taught and enforced in a consistent manner
  • Create framework for student evaluations and year-end performance reviews

Organizational Support

  • Collaborates with other ACE staff to assure proper and efficient use of ACE resources
  • Plan budgets and expenditures for all construction related projects
  • Seeks partnerships with community organizations, employers and unions to strengthen the component
  • Engaged in expanding your professional skills and knowledge to enhance program
  • Regularly communicates with other team members about the performance and behavior of the trainees in the program

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the construction industry (framing, drywall installation, window and door installation, flooring, finish carpentry, basic plumbing, electrical and roofing)
  • Industry recognized trainer certification (MC3, HBI PACT, etc) preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years working in a training environment.
  • Excellent computer, organizational, creative and independent problem solving, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in response to known deadlines and maintain a keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, copiers, and printers
  • Able to work effectively with minimum supervision and manage competing priorities; able to exercise sound judgment in making effective decisions
  • Spanish language skills, verbal and written preferred
